Portus was the main port of ancient Rome for most of the Antiquity.
It is located on the coast close to Ostia Antica and to the modern town of Fiumicino. Its life starts with the emperor Claudius (I century A.D.) and was greatly enlarged by the emperor Trajan, supplying the City of Rome until the Late Antiquity period (VII century A.D.).
